Sacred and Mundane
When I first spotted Jesus painted on a leaf at Goodwill, I was shocked. Who would own such a thing? Was it blasphemous? I had to have it.
I don’t understand my fascination with these objects- objects that are made in the name of sacred beings but that are tacky and used in the everyday world. Does Jesus belong on a clock? And is there a difference between a Greek icon and my hologram Jesus?
It is fitting that these photographs are not clear, neither in meaning nor in their appearance, that they seem mysterious and amusing at the same time. I used beeswaxed paper negatives and laid them loosely on the photo paper to give a dark unfocused look to the scene.
All is not clear.
